Salesforce is helping to fund the conservation, restoration & growth of 100,000,000 trees by 2030.
This estimate is based on the amount of funding we provide, and progress reports we receive from our partner organizations. The estimate is updated regularly.
From the Andes to the Outback, from mangroves to Giant redwood groves, life on Earth hangs in the balance. Salesforce is doing everything we can to counter climate change and create a sustainable, low-carbon future for all. That means reducing emissions, as well as protecting and improving carbon sinks like forests and oceans — the lungs of the Earth.
Trees purify our air, cool our planet, prevent soil erosion, and add grace and beauty to our homes and communities. Without trees, life as we know it will cease to exist. However, since the dawn of civilization, nearly half the world’s forests have been cleared or degraded. And we continue to lose 10 billion trees per year. Of the original 6 trillion trees that once covered the earth’s landmass, only 3 trillion remain.
Salesforce is committed to doing all we can to limit global warming to 1.5° Celsius and halt and reverse nature loss. We are rapidly accelerating our sustainability program and integrating climate and nature action into the core of our business to ultimately deliver on the shared, planetary goal of a more sustainable and equitable future.
In January 2020, as a founding partner of 1t.org, Salesforce announced our own goal to help fund the conservation, restoration, and growth of 100 million trees by the end of 2030.
We know we’ll have to refine our programs and methodology over time by sharing with and learning from others, but we know it must be done in a socially and ecologically responsible way. This includes meaningfully engaging with indigenous people and local communities on this journey. Restoration of our ecosystems is only sustainable when local communities reap social, economic, and ecological benefits.
Where Ocean Sustainability meets Trees.
Mangroves are the world’s “super trees”. Mangrove forests can sequester up to 10x as much carbon as trees on land; they provide habitat for hundreds of threatened species; they foster food security and livelihoods for communities that depend on the fish they shelter; and they serve as a buffer from storm surge, which makes them a powerful tool for coastal resilience. And in addition to all that, because vulnerable and Indigenous communities often live side-by-side with mangroves, they can also be a key solution for achieving climate justice.
As part of our commitment to 1t.org, Salesforce is supporting the Mangrove Breakthrough, a collective initiative to secure the future of mangrove forests globally. Learn more about Salesforce’s mangrove journey and discover opportunities to join the movement here.
